Capacity and Needs Assessment Introduced to Monmouth County
County Evaluator's briefings on the findings of the Monmouth County Comprehensive Cancer Capacity and Needs Assessment.
In a series of three breakfast meetings held on April 15, 21 and 26, Monmouth County stakeholders were introduced to the new Monmouth Cancer Coalition and the recently completed Cancer Capacity and Needs Assessment. Meetings were hosted by Bayshore Community Hospital, Freehold Area Health Department, and Monmouth Regional Health Commission.
The County Evaluator, Patricia H. Virga, Ph.D. of New Solutions, Inc., presented the findings and recommendations of the capacity and needs assessment.
Cancer incidence in Monmouth County is among the highest in the state. From 1996 to 2000, an average of 655.8 men and 479.3 women per 100,000 were diagnosed with cancer each year in Monmouth County, compared to the New Jersey rate 0f 628.7 for men and 453.7 for women. As in the state, the types of cancers which affect most people in Monmouth County are prostate, breast, lung and colorectal.
