Reach Out for Life Program Comes to Monmouth County

Breast Cancer Screening Program Targets African-American Women

Reach Out for Life Program Comes to Monmouth County

Reach Out for Life is now available in Monmouth County.  This program is a grassroots, community-based campaign designed to promote breast cancer awareness, encourage breast self-examination, and provide free screenings to eligible women over age 40.  Although the program will be available to underserved women of all ethnic backgrounds, the pilot progam will initilly target African-Americns because they have the highest rate of late-stage incidence.  Every woman who participates will have a dedicated care manager, someone to navigate her through the process from education to mammogram and any necessary follow-up.

The program aims to educate over 10,000 and sponsor breast cancer screenings for more than 1,000 women in the thirteen counties of central and southern New Jersey.

To get started, simply dial 2-1-1 from any telephone to determine eligibility for free screening.  A specially trained operator will ask a few simple questions and then connect you with a care manager who will help you identify a local mammogram center, make an appointment and serve as a guide for any necessary follow-up.  You can obtain more information by visiting www.reachout4life.org.

Reach Out For Life: Somebody Needs You is a program of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in partnership with multiple State of New Jersey agencies and African-American community groups.  Partners include the NJ Cancer Education & Early Detection (NJCEED) Program, New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, and New Jersey Primary Care Association, Inc.
