The Coalition's own Theresa L. Beck spoke at the quarterly meeting of the New Jersey CEED Program Coordinators in North Brunswick. Her presentation entitled "Palliative Care in the Community" focused on the need for health care professionals to better understand the full array of palliative care services and to raise awareness in the general community.
Monmouth Cancer Coalition Chair Speaks to the New Jersey CEED Coordinators About Palliative Care
On December 7, 2010, Theresa L. Beck, Theresa L. Beck, RN, MPA, CHPN, Chair of the Monmouth Cancer Coalition and Co-Chair of the Governor’s Work Group on Palliative Care, spoke at the quarterly meeting of the New Jersey CEED Program Coordinators in North Brunswick. Her presentation entitled "Palliative Care in the Community" focused on the need for health care professionals to better understand the full array of palliative care services and to raise awareness in the general community. New Jersey CEED Coordinators from all twenty-one counties were present.
Palliative care encompasses a broad array of health options available to persons with serious illness. Terry spoke on the definition of palliative care, how it fits into the continuum, its benefits, and resources available to access palliative care. She also focused on the need for community education and provided guidance on how to enlighten CEED recipients on palliative care. She is also preparing a fact sheet and list of resources available to the Coordinators.
