Empowering South Asians in New Jersey

"Empowering South Asians in New Jersey" is a statewide conference open to all New Jersey South Asians to learn about the issues affecting the community, to develop leadership skills, and to identify strategies for building stronger communities.
DATES: Saturday & Sunday, January 30 & 31, 2010

The conference is co-sponsored by SAALT (South Asian Americans Leading Together), SAMHAJ, Sikh Coalition and Manavi -- along with CAIR-NJ and New Jersey Immigration Policy Network.

SAMHAJ (South Asian Mental Health Awareness in Jersey) is an awareness and education program initiated by NAMI NJ (National Alliance on Mental Illness of New Jersey). Its mission is to provide support and information for South Asian individuals (people originating from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives) and familie coping with serious mental illness. The services include monthly self-support groups, educational presentations and referrals to culturally sensitive mental health professionals.
